With the upcoming Scorpion Vision 9.0 release we are proud to present a new concept Scorpion Vision Apps. Inspired by the mobile revolution we want to provide the most sophisticated 2D and 3D machine vision apps to everybody. The apps are based on Scorpion Vision Software and Scorpion 3D Stinger and will be easy to use for everybody.

We launched the Scorpion 3D Stinger Camera in 2011. The camera can extract 3D information from a scene using 3D Stereo Vision or 3D Laser Triangulation. In the Scorpion 3D Stinger Surface Defect App we use 3D laser triangulation to create a 3D model of the surface.

Scorpion 3D Surface Defect App

The 3D Surface Defect App can be tailored to inspect any surface for height deviations. Combined with the Scorpion 3D Stinger camera it can be mounted over a conveyor for continuous monitored or a robot for the finest 3D surface defect inspections. The animation below shows an application where a moving surface is being inspected with 0.01 mm height resolution. The laser profile in physical dimensions is extracted with sub-pixel resolution in real-time from the Scorpion 3D Stinger camera. This camera covers a width of 13 mm and a height of 5 mm. The Height Deviation Plot as shown in Figure 2 below  is generated from the 3D Image and shows the size and the position of every defect

Easy to integrate on conveyors and with robots

In a conveyor system the app will output a 24 volt signal when a defect is detected on the surface for easy integration in any automation system. When inspecting cables or rods multiple Scorpion 3D Stinger Cameras can be configured to provide 360 degrees inspection. The system can be used in automotive, furniture, oil industry, pharmaceutical and more.

The finest 3D machine vision is used

To create this App we have used the best 3D machine available. The Scorpion 3D Stinger Camera is 3D calibrated with sub-pixel accuracy with a reference object. The SingleLineFinder tool locates the center of the laser line robustly. The profile is converted to a true 3D Image and the defects are classified with height and size all in mm.
